The Polar Cooling Fiber
Cold fiber or (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) was commercialized in the 1950’s. It is an odorless, non-toxic fiber that does not contain BPA’s, (bisphenol A), which is commonly used in plastics.
Cold fiber has a very low moisture absorption rate which gives it its cold characteristic. UHMW Polyethylene has a very high resistance to abrasion and because of its resistance to wear and impact, it used in beverage bottling, and the material of choice for total joint arthroplasty in orthopedic implant surgeries.
The cold fiber is pleasantly soft and comfortable. And although it’s not a natural sustainable resource, we like this material because it is toxin free and recyclable from fiber or bottles, producing new virgin fiber, reducing waste in landfills.
